If you love food and would like to enjoy it at a leisurely pace, why not come to our next Slow Food Event on October 5th at Harns Homestead.

Slow Food OKC:  The Slow Food Oklahoma City chapter (or “convivium”) was established by co-leaders, Kamala Gamble and Kerry Norman with Cristina McQuistion.  They are deeply committed to informing the general public, including children, that artisanal foods are part of our cultural identity, provide a sound basis for health and promote a more harmonious lifestyle.  We sponsor quarterly events that showcase local growers and producers of the finest quality food that Oklahoma has to offer.

Past events include:

  • Annual Slow Food Fall Family Picnics featuring local chefs cooking and serving the best locally produced meats, poultry, game and veggies at both the Harn Homestead and Red Round Barn in Arcadia.  Attendance of over 300 and the opportunity to interact with local producers makes this our signature event!
  • Splendor of Italy Extravaganzas featuring Italian wines, cheeses, meats and olives available through local purveyors Mediterranean Deli, Republic Beverages and Farrell Family Organic Breads
  • Mardi Gras Mambo benefit to assist Louisiana food producers and purveyors devastated by Hurricane Katrina
  • Award winning Chef Rick Bayless book signing and gourmet 5-course authentic Mexican meal at the Coach House restaurant
  • Farm to Table Cooking Classes showcasing No Name Ranch beef, Walters Hatchery chicken and turkey, and Horn Family Organic Farm eggs
  • Chef Ann Cooper lecture and book signing.  Chef Cooper is the author of Lunch Lessons: Changing the Way We Feed Our Children. For details, please visit the Slow Food OKC website.

Local Producers:  Anyone interested in purchasing local, non-factory farmed products may do so through a variety of means.  Personally, I order through the Oklahoma Food Cooperative, a local network that brings farm fresh products direct from the producers to you.  You may order each month from a list of nearly 100 producers.  In between orders I visit the OSU-OKC Farmers’ Market for fresh, seasonal produce.  Contact information is listed below along with the schedule for the farmers’ market.
